John is a senior corporate finance lawyer with significant experience in capital markets, M&A and private equity in the UK, continential Europe and Africa.
Prior to joining Anthem Advisory, John was a partner at a global law firm for over 15 years, where he headed the US corporate securities practice and was co-head of equity capital markets in Europe.
Before this, John practiced at Clifford Chance Rogers & Wells and Freshfields.
John's practice is primarily transactional and he has extensive experience representing issuers, investment banks and investors in a wide range of equity and debt capital markets transactions, and he also advises on mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, tender offers and innovative financing structures, as well as US SEC compliance & reporting and corporate governance issues.
Over the course of his career, John has had responsibility for closing several hundred transactions in a variety of sectors, with a particular focus on cross-border acquisitions and investments in emerging markets, including Africa.
John is recognized as a "leading lawyer" by the IFLR and has been recognized in Legal 500 as "a ‘great asset’ who ‘knows his way around complex international work'".
John received a BA magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Benjamin Franklin Scholar and Phi Beta Kappa, and has law degrees from both Oxford University and Columbia University. He recently completed an executive leadership course at Stanford University.
John is a member of the New York Bar and a solicitor in England and Wales.
Lucien is a senior corporate finance lawyer with blue chip private practice and investment banking experience in the UK, Europe and Africa.
He practiced law at Sullivan & Cromwell and Rogers & Wells and has advised financial institutions, corporates and private investors on hundreds of transactions in the UK and EMEA, including several landmark cross-border transactions.
Lucien also spent six years in senior leadership roles at Renaissance Capital, the emerging markets investment bank based in London. As Executive Director and Head of Legal, he helped develop and execute the firm’s strategy and its expansion to seven countries in EMEA while managing the legal and compliance teams in those regions. He also provided strategic counsel on complex restructuring transactions involving various businesses within the Renaissance Group.
Before joining Renaissance Capital, Lucien spent four years at Merrill Lynch, as a Director and Head of Equity Capital Markets Legal in London and General Counsel of Merrill Lynch South Africa in Johannesburg.
Lucien currently serves as a Non-Executive Director of EAC Advisory Limited, a Nigerian investment bank based in Lagos. He has also served on a number of other company boards, risk and audit committees and management boards in the international financial services sector.
Lucien was a Co-Founder and Director of Emerging Crowd, the London based fintech firm. European FinTech Top 100 winner in 2016, the firm advised and raised capital for SMEs in the UK, Africa and Asia.
Lucien graduated from Harvard University and Fordham Law School and is a member of the New York Bar.
Pamela is a senior lawyer with more than 14 years of experience in top tier law firms and in-house, handling complex cross-border corporate transactions and a wide range of capital market, private equity and venture capital and other corporate transactions.
