Anthem advised Sanlam Investments on its loan to Atlas Mara

Anthem Advisory advised Sanlam Africa Credit Investments Limited on the structuring and execution of its recent investment in Atlas Mara, the financial services holding company listed on the London Stock Exchange.

With more than R400 billion under management, Sanlam Investments is one of South Africa’s largest asset management companies. The firm has nearly 100 years’ experience on the continent and a presence in 13 African countries.

Atlas Mara holds controlling or significant stakes in banking operations in seven sub-Saharan African countries, including Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Mozambique, Rwanda and Nigeria.

Anthem Advisory advised TLG Credit Opportunities Fund on the structuring and execution of its recent investment in Atlas Mara, the financial services holding company listed on the London Stock Exchange. The $10 million 2-year structured credit deal was Anthem’s fifth corporate finance transaction in Africa in 2018 and demonstrates its further commitment to the region.

Led by Bob Diamond as the Chairman, Atlas Mara holds controlling or significant stakes in banking operations in seven sub-Saharan African countries, including Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Mozambique, Rwanda and Nigeria. TLG noted that “with Union Bank of Nigeria being Atlas Mara’s largest asset, we believe that the group is in a strong position to benefit from rising credit growth and consumer activity in the country.”

Anthem advised TLG Capital on its $11.5 million investment in Grace Lake Partners

Anthem advised TLG Capital on its $11.5 million investment in Grace Lake Partners (GLP), the exclusive Nigerian partner of French outdoor advertising company JCDecaux.

The 5-year structured loan facility from the TLG Credit Opportunities Fund will be used to fund the growth of GLP’s existing businesses, including expanding the geographical footprint of its outdoor advertising company JCDecaux Grace Lake. GLP has also made investments in the infrastructure, healthcare, media and retail sectors.

Anthem advised TLG Credit Opportunities Fund on its first deal in Rwanda

Anthem advised TLG Credit Opportunities Fund on its first deal in Rwanda - a debt financing for Metafoam Ltd, a mattress manufacturer based in Kigali.

The financing, which also provides TLG with equity optionality, has a 5-year tenor and is backed by a standby letter of credit issued by Equity Bank Rwanda and confirmed by Equity Bank Kenya.

The capital will be used to finance an increase in Metafoam's production capacity.

Managing Partner Lucien Moolenaar named Non-Executive Director at Emerging Africa Group

Managing Partner Lucien Moolenaar has joined the Board of Directors of EAC Advisory, the investment banking and financial advisory arm of Emerging Africa Group, as a non-executive director. The appointment further strengthens Anthem Advisory’s commercial relationships in the Nigerian market and across the African continent.

Lagos, Nigeria: Speaking at the Nigerian Bar Association's M&A Conference 2018

John Basnage spoke in Lagos at the annual seminar of the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Business Law in May 2018.

This year's seminar focused on M&A in Nigeria, and John presented an overview of the global M&A market, including recent trends.
